His expertise includes endoscopic excision of pituitary tumours and craniopharyngiomas. He is skilled in the safe excision of gliomas of the brain with awake craniotomy and IONM. He performs minimal access surgery for spinal cord tumours, reconstruction of congenital anomalies of the spine and spinal cord, and surgery for peripheral nerve tumours and nerve injuries. He is specialised in endoscopic neurosurgery for both skull base and intraventricular procedures.
Pioneer in Neurosurgical Innovations: Dr. Bapu was the first to perform superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery bypass in South Tamil Nadu in 1984. He is also known for the total excision of cerebello-pontine angle tumours with facial nerve preservation.
