Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan earned his MBBS from the University of Madras, India, in 1978. He completed his MS in General Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in 1980. He then pursued his MCh in Thoracic Surgery at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, graduating in 1982.
He has received numerous awards, including the Double Helical National Health Award in 2017, the Best Doctor Award from the Tamil Nadu Government in 2017, and the Special Jury Award from FICCI in 2017.
He also received the First Rank and Distinction in the Cardiothoracic Board Final from the University of Bombay and the Hiralal Gold Medal in Surgery from AIIMS, New Delhi, in 1980.
His work has been published in high-ranking medical journals.
